Everyone has been asking me for some more tips and videos on swimming, particular swimming in open water. Here is a video I put together last week while swimming with my tri club on sighting in open water. There are a few simple tricks to sighting well and swimming straight without disrupting your stroke. The friend of mine who helped me film it has only swim in open water one other time, and after shooting the video she was really looking forward to swimming and practicing sighting.
So take a look at the video and let me know what you think about it. Leave any comments or questions right here on the blog and I’ll answer them for you!
Very good video. I appreciate it very much. What is the best way to keep your goggles from fogging up?
Thanks
a drop of baby shampoo (or regular, but just one drop) spread over hte inside of the googles the night before, or immediately after each swim. Let it dry. Then prior to your next swim, just quicky dip without rinsing fully. They will stay pretty clear for quite awhile.
Thank you so much. I really needed this because I only breath on my right side so my view is very limited. I’m going to practice this today.
Great Jeri! Just take your time and be patient. Try both sides and practice both sides. 🙂
Thank you for this!!! so helpful to be able to picture it. now to get over my anxiety of open water swimming…
Tara, you can see this was filmed next to a dock. For newbies & phobics, we just dangle feet for awhile, slip in next to the dock and hang on, then practice swimming up and back.
Great video! I can’t wait to try the sighting game.
So far the highest one of my athletes has gotten is 90 strokes without sighting. At 80 strokes she was spot on target, so she went for 90…she veered pretty far off course, but she had beautiful corals to look at so she didn’t mind.
